DEADLY AFLATOXIN - Culprit behind farmers post harvest-losses
The fungi Aspergillus is responsible for the damage caused on farm produce namely ground nuts and maize leading to high post harvest losses
Planet Defence will be engaging farmers and experts in some parts of the country and beyond to gauge how they have been affected by Aflatoxin. Locally, these infestations are described as chuku in the vernacular.
Aflatoxin is caused by a Fungi of the Genius Aspergillus either the species is flavus or parasitic.
Our team will also gauge the nexus between climate change and the bearing it has on food and nutritional security if Aflatoxins are not well managed and the role they contribute to post harvest losses among especially subsistence farmers.
